Top các trường học tốt nhất ở NSW theo các cấp bậc từ tiểu học đến đại học, bậc mầm non xin phép được bỏ qua. Ở Úc có hệ thống trường công và trường tư song song giống như ở Việt Nam. Trường công thì miễn phí hoàn toàn, còn trường tư, trường đạo thì đóng phí từ vài ngàn AUD một năm cho tới trên $50,000 AUD một năm. Du học sinh quốc tế mức học phí có thể sẽ cao hơn.
1. Trường tiểu học
Mỗi vùng suburb (phường, xã) thường có ít nhất một trường tiểu học công lập. Tuy nhiên số lượng trường có lớp OC (Opportunity Classes gọi nôm na là lớp chọn) thì ít hơn rất nhiều. Nhiều khi cả một Council (LGA, quận huyện) mới có một trường có.
OC sẽ nhận hồ các học sinh lớp 4 từ tháng 3 đến tháng 5 hàng năm, thi trong tháng 7 và tầm tháng 10 có kết quả để nhập học lớp 5 vào năm sau.
Ví dụ năm 2024
Thi trắc nghiệm trên giấy có 3 phần: Đọc hiểu, Toán và Tư duy
- Reading – 25 items – 30 minutes
- Mathematical Reasoning – 35 items – 40 minutes
- Thinking Skills – 30 items – 30 minutes
Các lớp OC cũng chỉ tập trung cho tiếng Anh, Toán và Khoa học.
Danh sách các trường tiểu học có lớp OC, xếp theo Postcode. Các trường công này giống như trường công bình thường, nhưng sẽ có thêm 1 – 4 lớp OC bên cạnh các lớp thường.
Các trường tư cũng có các lớp chọn, tuy nhiên ở đây mình chỉ liệt kê các trường công.
Dưới đây là danh sách 35 trường tiểu học công lập (Primary, Public) ở vùng Greater Sydney có các lớp . Danh sách toàn bộ các trường 77 có OC ở NSW và lịch thi tuyển trên website của NSW.
Public school là trường công bậc tiểu học.
Thông thường các trường chỉ có 15 – 30 chỉ tiêu, một số trường thường tuyển nhiều hơn (60 chỉ tiêu)

2. Trường trung học
Ở NSW, cứ một vài suburb thì mới có một trường trung học. Trường công của chính phủ (High school) có trường công thường, trường công chuyên và có cả lớp thường (Partially selective), và trường chuyên toàn bộ (Fully selective). Danh sách các trường trên website của NSW.
Tất nhiên việc thi tuyển vào các trường này cũng rất khắt khe, ôn luyện, cạnh tranh không kém gì trường chuyên Việt Nam.
Các học sinh lớp 6 sẽ nộp hồ sơ và thi tuyển để nhập học lớp 7 vào năm sau. Môn thi như sau

Các trường chuyên cũng chỉ học Tiếng Anh, Toán và Khoa học chuyên sâu hơn lớp thường. Các môn học khác không khác biệt.
Top 10 trường công hàng đầu dựa trên kết quả thi HSC (Higher School Certificate, thi tốt nghiệp trung học lớp 11 & 12). Tất cả 10 trường này đều là các trường Fully Selective, trong tổng số 17 trường chuyên của cả NSW. Cả 10 trường này đều nằm ở Sydney.

Hầu hết các trường tư này đều nằm ở các khu nhà giàu vùng Eastern Suburbs nên giá nhà thường rất đắt đỏ. Học phí trường tư nói chung là khá đắt đỏ. Nên nếu con bạn có năng khiếu học hành, việc thi được vào trường công top đầu sẽ giúp bạn tiết kiệm được kha khá. Tất nhiên các gia đình có điều kiện vẫn sẽ gửi con tới trường tư để mây tầng nào có cơ hội giao lưu với mây tầng đó.
