Hệ thống giáo dục phổ thông ở Úc được chia làm 2 bậc
- Bậc tiểu học (Primary K-6) từ Mẫu giáo (Kindergarten) tới lớp 6
- Bậc trung học (Secondary 7-12) từ lớp 7 đến lớp 12
Hệ thống trường cũng gồm trường công và trường tư giống VN.
Trường công sẽ được miễn phí học phí, chỉ phải mua đồng phục, đồ dùng học tập, đồ ăn tự mang từ nhà….
Trường tư thì sẽ đóng học phí dành cho con nhà khá giả, du học sinh,… môi trường thường tốt hơn trường công. Học phí tuỳ trường nhưng khoảng $22k AUD hay 350tr VND/năm, gồm 4 kỳ.
Trường chuyên lớp chọn (Selective) chủ yếu ở bậc trung học.
Học trường công
Ivy học trường công cho gần nhà cho tiện, Primary không đặt nặng chuyện học hành. Mục tiêu chính vui khoẻ, hoà đồng tốt là được. Các trường công ở Sydney gồm từ bậc mẫu giáo cho tới đại học.
Con mình từ VN qua đủ tuổi đi học lớp K (Kindergarten – mẫu giáo), cháu học mẫu giáo ở quê nghỉ vài tháng vì covid và hoàn toàn không có nền tảng gì tiếng Anh.
Giầy tờ nhập học cũng rất đơn giản: Giấy khai sinh, Visa, và Hồ sơ tiêm chủng từ VN. Mọi thứ khá đơn giản chỉ có đồng phục thì thực sự rất đắt, đồ trẻ em, đắt ngang hàng trung cấp của người lớn (VD $50AUD = 850k/áo hoặc quần)
Buổi đầu tiên đến trường kéo dài 30ph để cô giáo nói chuyện làm quen 1-1 về khả năng giao tiếp, tương tác… Ivy không biết TA nên cô dùng GG translate để nói chuyện cho đến khi không thể tiếp tục 🙂
Buổi thứ 2 vẫn là chuyển giao (transition), các bạn được gom theo lớp để chơi, sinh hoạt và ăn uống trong 90 phút. Ivy có thể chơi với các bạn, nhưng chưa tương tác gì và mục nghe cô giáo kể chuyện chỉ tiếp thụ về mặt hình ảnh và ngôn ngữ cơ thể của cô giáo.
Đồ ăn nước uống học sinh tự chuẩn bị và các bạn không được share với nhau vì những lo ngại về Covid và dị ứng đồ ăn (food allergy). Bữa ăn rất nhanh chỉ có hoa quả snack vì chỉ có 10ph nghỉ. Đây có lẽ là điểm khác biệt cơ bản và hình thành nên văn hoá ăn nhanh, ăn trưa rất nhanh gọn để học tập và làm việc….
Yêu cầu trước khi đi học
Trước khi đi học mẫu giáo, trẻ cần có sự chủ động và tự làm được các việc cơ bản cho bản thân. Ví dụ như
- Tự biết đi Toilet
- Biết dọn đồ chơi
- Biết chuẩn bị cặp đi học
- Biết chuẩn bị đồ ăn tới lớp
- Biết phối hợp và chơi cùng các bạn…
Điều này giúp dần hình thành thói quen tự lập, cũng như khả năng chơi và phối hợp cùng các bạn.
Khả năng số học
Trẻ được kỳ vọng sẽ hoàn thành các bài số học đơn giản ở K
- Đếm xuôi ngược đến 30
- Cộng trừ đến 10
- Gấp đôi, chia đôi
- Nhận biết hình dạng và mẫu
Nhìn chung các yêu cầu này đều rất đơn giản.
